Current Teacher in Florida Public School with Florida Temporary Certificate

If you are a current teacher in a Florida public school and hold a Florida Temporary Certificate, and want to upgrade to a Professional Certificate, there are several routes you can take to reach this goal. These are described below.

  1. Earn a Valid Certificate Issued by American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) and Demonstration of Professional Education Competence (PEC) in the Classroom in your current position;
  2. Complete a Florida Professional Development Certification Program and pass the Florida Certification Examinations
  3. Enroll in a College Professional Training program (PTO), demonstrate Professional Education Competence (PEC) in the classroom, and pass the Florida Certification Examinations
  4. Professional Preparation College Courses, Teaching Experience, Demonstration of Professional Education Competence in the Classroom, and Passing Florida Certification Examinations
  5. Graduate Degree in a STEM Field; Teach Approved STEM High School Course; Hold 6-12 STEM Certification; Highly Effective Summative Rating Based on Student Performance on AP, IB, AICE or EOC Assessments; and Passing Florida Certification Examinations
